About The Artist
“You’re alive, be alive”.
– words I have learned to live by through deep grief, and my past experience in palliative care.
Flowers are radiant even as they begin their quiet descent into decay.
As I witness this unfolding cycle of life, my abstract florals are a witness to their vibrant, fleeting moment of life, holding onto it before it is gone.
Nature reveals, again and again, that birth, death, and rebirth are inseparable, each dependent on the other.
In grief, there is a strange comfort in this rhythm: what is lost is not gone, but transformed. I feel a connection to those I have lost in something as simple and immediate as a flower, and that their moment of beauty is only one aspect of the whole.
There is darkness in this truth but nature gives comfort demonstrating that the life that fades lives on in a new form.
Originally from London, UK, Sarah McAllister is an expressive, gestural nature painter who works in acrylics, watercolor and oil.
Her work is a personal reflection on themes of grief and loss. A poetic exploration that takes into consideration the fleeting nature of beauty. Her use of vibrant color convincing us that vitality can only exist in the present as all things pass through the cycle of life.
After moving to California in 2000 Sarah earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in painting with distinction from the California College of the Arts (CCA) and has established herself as an emerging artist in the Bay Area, California. She is currently a member of City Art Gallery in San Francisco, ICB Artist Association, Sausalito Center for the Arts and the Oakland Art Association. She works from her studio in Sausalito at ICB/ART overlooking the San Francisco Bay.
